Two Dogs Merino

About

TWO DOGS MERINO

Two Dogs Merino is an idea born from Vermont history upon the discovery of stone walls, barbed wire, and woven wire fencing throughout the wooded hillsides of Brookfield.

It is an idea born from a passion for living in the countryside and the hard physical work it takes to live the simple life.

It is an idea born from an appreciation of the qualities of wool as a textile to stand the test of time.

It is an idea born from the camaraderie of working animals.

It is an idea to bring the OLD back to the NEW, home grazed in the Green Mountain State of the USA once again!

Why Merino? Three reasons. First, is the luxurious next to skin feel of this wool on many a cold winter backcountry camping or skiing adventure. Second, Merino sheep are good looking, moderately sized, friendly, and have an iconic worldwide reputation. Third, Merino are representatives of a history of economic might in Vermont, New England, and the USA. Their numbers have since been transplanted to the other side of the world, an unimaginable supply chain considering the available resources that remain in this country.

Preferring to work with my hands, tired of my desk job, and having joked of raising sheep as a hermit on the side of a mountain for perhaps a decade, the decision was finally made to try this endeavor. Our five original Merino ewes were gratefully acquired from Wil-HI Farm in Tivoli, NY and Dodge Farm in Berlin, VT. Through the generosity of neighbors who appreciate seeing these fabled sheep graze out their windows, maintaining their open lands and resultant biological diversity, we are growing!
